Behold the Power of the Dark Side...
of the Code
I like to think that I keep up with new and exciting things. But wanting to be engulfed in most things touch related, there was one thing I had just been keeping away. Objective-C and iPhone OS. I watched it take over and lead the way in touch becoming a mainstream idea, which excitingly pulls multitouch right along with it.
But I have NO idea about Objective-C or the iPhone OS. I tried to get into Android OS every so slightly, but nothing much came out of that. There are just so many languages to think about using. So after taking stock of everything and realizing just the pull of apple and the iPhone and iPad, choice made.
Truth time: this makes me feel like I'm falling over to the dark side of the force
But being a Flash Designer/Developer first, and the whole adobe v. apple battle going on I'm saying that I will never completely abandon Flash. I still think it is more than effective for doing the large size multitouch projects I've been working on. Apple has nothing to compare to that. But for compactability and mobility, looks like apple is the way to go. And if they are going to ban the Flash CS5 compiler (which I'm still going to try using regardless) then looks like apps will need to be made their way...or the high way...or no app store for you.
Whatever, I find it exciting to learn something new, even though it has already been so frustrating.
So here have been my steps so far:
- Get myself a mac-mini, iPod Touch, iPad, developer's liscence
- Start Learning and Building
- Apple iTunes U: http://www.apple.com/education/itunes-u/
- (which i stopped watching really really fast, I don't know if they every show any walkthoughs, but I'll watch rarely, it's mainly conceptual)
- Lynda.com: An AWESOME first start to work along with. Really helpful for getting my feet wet about the xcode and interface builder interface. I've also learned a lot of Actionscript 3.0 through them as well. They are a solid learning experience.
- Google (of course): endless knowledge, but better if you already have some chops
- Already ended up getting me lost and frustrated because the lynda.com tutorials didn't transition directly to real world use.
- YouTube tutorials. A little hit/miss, but able to find a specific topic to focus on, like UITableView and the Navigation Control
- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhSWE6_ieyA This is the one I FINALLY got mine working with
- Apple iTunes U: http://www.apple.com/education/itunes-u/
So the plan here now is, share my trails and hopefully help get others on the right path. The right path, on the dark side...

Small Update:
I've been playing around with pulling content into the Esty API. So far I've got a dynamic list into a UITableView.
Now I need to make a details view SubLayout and I should have a legit mini application.
