tBeta upgraded to Community Core Vision

May 6th, 2009

And it is definetly an upgrade in the right direction. It's been a while since tBeta was upgraded, at least since I started working with multi-touch back in October or so. But I heard in the forum that tBeta has been upgraded to tBeta to Community Core Vision (CCV). And I couldn't not wait to get home from work and try it out.

First impression. Great. Everything looked the same, excellent. But what's this? New/more options to work with. Most notibly (most for me for sure) "TUIO direct to Flash sending through TCP." No more needing FLOSC to communicate between CCV and Flash. Don't get me wrong, FLOSC is Awesome and meant that Flash could understand the data coming from tBeta and touchlib. I couldn't have learned what I have thus far without it, but one less program running and even just that little bit of processing power going to Flash? Sweet!

And the controls are even more powerful. Better control over fine tuning the level controls. And adjustable "learning" of the dynamic background subtraction will the coming in handy for me soon enough.

I think daft punk said it best:

Work It Harder Make It Better
Do It Faster Makes Us stronger
More Than Ever Hour After
Our Work Is Never Over

Well, I've been listening to that track for days now. I seem to do that when it comes to music. Listen to one song over and over and over. Just another quirk I suppose.

So CCV, you want it? Find it here. I think I have a new favorite open source computer vision program.

Happy Experimenting.

Video of Newer Experiments

April 20th, 2009

Now that the majority of my home move is complete, I wanted to make sure that my multi-touch build got moved in one piece and nothing became askew. My new home has a nice size basement that I'll be able to utilize as a primary work area, and the lack of windows will let me be able to test experiments at any time of day. I like this.

So I just wanted to make a new video to share with everyone, it's actually the first time I've been able to do my latest experiments on a touchscreen and not just use a simulator. I've included demonstrations of Touch Explosions, Add, Move and Remove MovieClip and (yet to be tutorialized) Touch Vines. The Touch Vines tutorial is coming soon.

Unfortunately, I did not add in PaintCanvas.as to SimpleDraw.as to the mix, the computer I use to run my multi-touch just doesn't have the power to run it smoothly. Which brings me to a new challenge, is there a way to adjust the coding so that it WILL run smoothly on a slower computer system? Even with the Touch Explosions, you'll notice that if I touch with all 10 fingers at once, there is a brief slowdown in processing power.

I hope you like the music. I tried a little bit of choreography for you to enjoy, very little.
Happy Experimenting. (^_^)//
