App Demo Vid - Google Map Search

It about time I mentioned an application I've been working on. Expanding the start of using Google Maps, this demo expands on it and combines a few examples I found into one application.

The idea behind it is to be setup in a local that is getting a lot of unfamiliar to the area traffic. This could be a place of commerce, public space or conference to name a few.

  1. I tried using a different and more advanced Google Map multitouch code: Google Maps Multi-touch Actionscript Code [Update_3] (thanks to Johannes Luderschmidt)
  2. Buttons can be used to search pre-defined locations, that code can be found in this Google Flash Maps - Local Searcher (c/o Pamela Fox at Google).
  3. Custom searching with the virtual keyboard is a mini-app i've been cleaning up and hopefully will soon release for everyone to use ~ coming soon
  4. Selecting one of the items calls the Directions information from one centralized point to the locations, this example code is Driving Directions with Datagrid (c/o Pamela Fox at Google).
  5. Finally, so you don't have to write down the directions, I have a small script on my website that relays the direction information to a free SMS aggregator for testing and demo purposes ~ all thanks to attending Art&&Code a few weekends ago.

One thing to note, is that the Local Searcher is Flex code, but I'm no Flex coder. So I eventually had figured out how to change the HTTPService to a URLLoader. If you want to be able to port this all into the Flash IDE, keep that in mind.

I hope you enjoy the video presentation. I'm looking to clean it up even more visually and record a better quality once I get a chance to convert my newest table build from FTIR to DI. Unless anyone can offer new advice to creating a decent compliant layer.

Thanks.
and Happy Experimenting

I haven’t yet had a chance to clean up all the code for a comfortable releasing. It is on my to do list and I’m slowly getting there. Sometimes I jump around experiments too much.
